My Trash

Discarded: Daily Views of Trash Project originally started as a month-long practice of creating a watercolor every day. Inspired by Hokusai’s One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, I chose the trash as my subject to become mindful of my waste production. By painting the same subject daily, the project became a collection of the trash I produced and a progression of artistic skill and exploration. After the month was complete, I decided to continue painting regularly, implementing time in my week to focus on only art. The watercolors below are organized in chronological order to display the evolution of my approach, composition, color choice, and technique. Despite the change from one piece to another, all the paintings are watercolor and have a similar stylistic shadow. With the project now totaling 80 pieces, I plan to continue adding to the series to demonstrate the growing impact of the trash we so easily throw away.
